On June 2nd, the President of the Foundation, Radosław Tyszkiewicz, met with Mr. Tomohide Karita – the Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Hiroshima, professionally associated with the energy company Chugoku Electric Power Co., Inc.
The Honorary Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Hiroshima plays a significant role in strengthening Polish-Japanese relations, especially in the Chūgoku region. The Consulate covers five prefectures: Hiroshima, Okayama, Tottori, Shimane, and Yamaguchi.
The meeting, held at the Consulate’s office in Hiroshima, provided an opportunity to discuss possibilities for future cooperation between the Foundation and the Consulate. Particular attention was paid to joint initiatives promoting Polish-Japanese cooperation in the fields of culture, science, and economy, taking into account the specifics of the Chūgoku region.
Despite a relatively small number of Polish citizens residing there, this region holds significant potential for activities promoting Poland and Polish culture. Strengthening Poland’s presence in this part of Japan can contribute to deepening mutual understanding and building lasting social and institutional relations.
Hiroshima, as a city-symbol of peace, known for its active role in international diplomatic and civic initiatives, also provides a unique venue for developing projects of a humanitarian and intercultural nature. The Foundation expressed its readiness to cooperate in this regard and declared support for the Consulate’s efforts to promote Poland and the values of intercultural dialogue.
