Radosław Tyszkiewicz, President of the Poland-Japan Foundation, visited the Chiune Sugihara Museum in Yaotsu, Gifu Prefecture – a memorial site dedicated to the Japanese diplomat who, during World War II, as Vice-Consul in Kaunas, Lithuania, issued thousands of transit visas, saving many Jews, including numerous Polish citizens, against his own government’s decisions. During the meeting with Yuko Ito, Director of the Museum, discussions were held regarding potential cooperation between the Foundation and the Museum, including the implementation of joint educational and cultural projects aimed at commemorating Sugihara’s legacy and promoting Polish-Japanese historical relations. The story of Chiune Sugihara is an exceptional testament to civil courage, empathy, and solidarity, which the Foundation seeks to promote more widely in both Poland and Japan.
