An exceptional meeting with Dr. Sylwia Szarejko from the Siberian Memorial Museum, author of the bilingual (Polish-Japanese) book “Polish Children in the Land of the Blooming Cherry”. This publication presents a little-known yet deeply moving episode from Polish history – the fate of Polish children evacuated in the 1920s from Siberia, engulfed by civil war, who found refuge in Japan. Thanks to cooperation with Japanese institutions, the book contains rich iconographic material: unique photographs and documents that not only constitute a valuable historical source, but also create a touching story of human solidarity. One of the exhibits at the Siberian Memorial Museum is a photograph depicting these very children during their stay in Japan.
