Polish-Japanese Bridges in Hokkaido: Culture, Youth, and Cooperation

Hokkaido holds significant importance for Poland due to both the presence of a small Polish community and the legacy of Bronisław Piłsudski—a researcher of Ainu culture and the brother of Józef Piłsudski. The Poland-Japan Foundation intends to expand its activities in this region in the near future. During discussions with Shuji Koshida, Director of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Hokkaido Prefectural Government, Foundation President Radosław Tyszkiewicz presented cooperation plans focusing primarily on cultural projects. Youth exchange initiatives are also being considered, and Seiko Tanigami, Director of the Japan International Cooperation Center branch in Hokkaido, has pledged support in this area. The meetings and discussions conducted represent an important step in building relationships and developing the Foundation’s contacts with Hokkaido, a dynamically developing region of Japan.
